Job Description:
The Opportunity
You will play a critical role in delivering a clear, commercial, and forward-looking view of commodity risk, enabling the business to scale responsibly while remaining agile and competitive.
Operating at the intersection of risk, trading, and technology, you will challenge decision-making, enhance risk infrastructure, and help onboard new markets and products across power and gas.
Key Responsibilities
*Act as a strategic risk partner to physical and financial power & gas trading desks
*Challenge profit generation, portfolio construction, and risk usage with a strong commercial mindset
*Design, build, and scale commodity risk capabilities, including: *Enhancing risk systems
*Developing Python-based tools and analytics
*Translate complex risk exposures into clear, concise insights for senior stakeholders
*Proactively educate broader risk teams on commodity-specific dynamics
*Support the onboarding of new power and gas markets, assets, and products
*Build robust risk frameworks covering: *Physical assets
*Storage, swings, and capacity
*Intraday trading and balancing risk
*Maintain a hands-on approach, remaining close to data, models, and desks
What We’re Looking For
*8+ years’ experience in commodity risk, trading, or quantitative roles
*Deep expertise in European physical power and gas markets
*Strong understanding of: *Physical asset structures
*Intraday trading and balancing mechanisms
*Proven experience challenging trading desks in a constructive, commercial way
*Advanced knowledge of risk and performance metrics (VaR, stress testing, scenarios)
*Strong technical capability: *Python (pandas, numpy)
*SQL
*Advanced Excel
*Quantitative academic background (engineering, maths, physics, economics, finance, or similar)
Advantageous Experience
*Exposure to LNG, freight, oil, or refined products
*Experience onboarding new markets or products into a risk framework
*Professional certifications (FRM, CFA, PRM, ERP)
