Payroll Manager
Workington (Office-Based)
£35,000
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
The Role
An experienced Payroll Manager role managing end-to-end payroll for a varied portfolio of clients within a busy accountancy practice.
You will ensure accurate payroll processing, maintain compliance with payroll legislation, and act as a trusted point of contact for client payroll queries while working closely with internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple clients
*Process starters, leavers, tax code changes and payroll amendments
*Calculate statutory payments including SMP and SPP
*Manage pension administration and salary sacrifice schemes
*Submit payroll returns and year-end reporting to HMRC
*Process payroll payments to employees, HMRC and pension providers
*Respond to payroll queries from clients and employees
*Prepare payroll reports and client billing invoices
*Maintain payroll procedures and audit records
*Support payroll system upgrades and testing
The Ideal Candidate
*Proven payroll management experience within a busy payroll environment
*Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax, NI and pensions
*Experience running large computerised payrolls
*Strong Excel and IT skills
*Highly organised with strong attention to detail
*Confident communicating with clients and stakeholders
*Payroll or accountancy qualification desirable
