Financial Controller
Sheffield City Centre (office-based and hybrid)
Salary: £75,000 to £85,000
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller at UniHomes is accountable for the day to day authority, stability and performance of the finance function.
This is a highly people-led role with significant responsibility for leading, developing and performance managing a multi-layered finance team, while ensuring robust financial control, consistency and resilience as UniHomes continues to scale.
You will have direct accountability for the day to day running of finance, leading a team that includes Management Accountants, an AP team, an Assistant Accountant, and a Billing and Collections Manager with their own team. You will bring clarity, structure and exacting standards, ensuring the function operates smoothly through periods of growth and change, while acting as a trusted partner to the Finance Director, CFO and senior stakeholders.
Alongside people leadership and financial control, you will play a key role in the oversight and evolution of core finance systems and data flows, supporting automation, integration and system change as the business scales.

Key responsibilitiesFinance leadership
*Act as the senior operational lead for the finance function, setting clear direction, expectations and standards
*Direct line management of Management Accountants, Assistant Accountant, AP and Billing and Collections teams
*Ensure effective workload planning, prioritisation and resilience across the team
*Coach, develop and performance manage team members, building capability and accountability
*Create a positive, high-performing and collaborative team culture
Financial control and reporting
*Full ownership of the monthly close process and management accounts
*Review and challenge balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
*Prepare high-quality financial commentary and analysis for senior leadership
*Oversee cash flow forecasting, payment approvals and working capital management
*Own delivery of finance outputs within established governance and sign-off processes
Business partnering
*Partner senior stakeholders on budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
*Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insight
*Support board and investor reporting alongside the Finance Director
*Work closely with FP and A colleagues while retaining accountability for financial control
Systems, data and process
*Operational ownership of core finance systems, including Sage Intacct and integrations such as Salesforce
*Lead or support system upgrades, automation and process improvement initiatives
*Ensure data integrity and robust end-to-end finance processes
*Collaborate with Technology and Operations teams to improve scalability and reporting efficiency
Governance, audit and change
*Drive consistency and continuous improvement across finance processes and controls
*Act as the primary operational contact for external auditors
*Support funding rounds, acquisitions and integration activity
*Ensure the finance function remains well governed and scalable

Skills and experienceEssential
*Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience as a Financial Controller or equivalent
*Proven ownership of day to day finance operations, including management accounts and audit readiness
*Significant experience leading multi-layered finance teams, including managing managers
*Experience working closely with Finance Directors and CFOs
*Strong commercial judgement and confidence operating in a fast-paced environment
*Experience overseeing finance systems, data integrity and process improvement
*Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Preferable
*Experience delivering finance transformation alongside Technology teams
*Experience with Sage Intacct, Salesforce or similar integrated environments
