Deputy School Business Manager - Cambridge
Location: Cambridge, UK
Salary: £28,500 to £31,000
Contract: Permanent
Reporting to: School Business Manager (SBM)
Role Purpose The Deputy School Business Manager will provide essential support to the SBM in the strategic and operational management of the school’s non-teaching functions. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the school’s resources are used efficiently to provide the best possible environment for our students. This is a "bridge" role, perfect for someone looking to step into a senior leadership position in the future.
Key Responsibilities1. Financial Management * Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.
* Manage day-to-day accounting.
* Ensure rigorous adherence to the SFVS (Schools Financial Value Standard) and Academy Trust Handbook.
2. Operations & Premises * Deputise for the SBM in overseeing site maintenance, health and safety compliance, and cleaning contracts.
* Lead on the procurement of goods and services to ensure "Best Value" for the school.
* Manage the school’s letting program to generate additional income from the local Cambridge community.
3. Human Resources & Administration * Maintain the Single Central Record (SCR) to ensure 100% compliance with safeguarding regulations.
* Oversee the administrative team, ensuring smooth communication between the school office, parents, and the Board of Governors.
* Coordinate the recruitment process for non-teaching staff.
4. Project Management * Assist in the delivery of capital projects (e.g., new classroom builds or energy-efficiency upgrades).
* Lead on IT infrastructure procurement or data protection (GDPR) audits
5. Person Specification: What we are looking for -
*Essential Experience: 2 plus years in finance or school admin
*Essential Skills: Advanced Excel and financial software (e.g SIMS, FMS, Sage)
*Desirable Skills: Knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation (IOSH)
*Essential Qualities: High integrity, calm under pressure and a sense of humour
*Desirable Qualities: A passion for improving educational outcomes
