Medical Secretary
Location: South Norfolk
Salary: £12.81 - £13 PH
Contract: Full-time / Part-time (flexible options available)
Are you an organised, compassionate, and detail-focused administrator looking to make a real difference in a patient-focused environment? Our GP Surgery is seeking a dedicated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive team. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of clinical administration and providing an excellent experience for our patients.
About the Role
As a Medical Secretary, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality administrative and secretarial support to our GPs and clinical team. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work confidently with sensitive, confidential information.
Key responsibilities include:
*Providing secretarial support to GPs and other clinicians.
*Managing referrals, including eReferrals, urgent two-week-wait (2WW) referrals, and routine pathway bookings.
*Typing and preparing medical correspondence, reports, and clinical letters.
*Handling patient enquiries with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality.
*Processing medical records, insurance reports, and subject access requests.
*Coordinating appointments, follow-ups, and clinical workflows.
*Ensuring all administrative tasks are completed in line with practice protocols and deadlines.
*Liaising with hospitals, community services, and external healthcare providers.
*Maintaining accurate patient information and documentation.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
*Previous experience in a secretarial or administrative role.
*Excellent typing, written, and verbal communication skills.
*Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
*Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
*Confident IT user, including Microsoft Office and clinical systems (training provided).
*Ability to prioritise workloads and manage competing demands.
*Professional, calm, and patient-focused approach.
*Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Desirable:
*Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or working within a healthcare or GP surgery environment.
*Knowledge of medical terminology.
*Experience using NHS clinical systems such as EMIS Web, SystmOne, Docman, or eReferrals Service.
