Job Description:
CNC Setter / Operator (Turning)Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join a busy machining team, working within a CNC Turning environment. The role involves setting and operating CNC lathes to manufacture precision components from a variety of materials.
The position primarily involves working from established process sheets, tooling layouts, and pre-written programs. However, the successful candidate will also be confident making edits at the machine when required.
The workshop is equipped with modern CNC turning centres using Mazak and Fanuc controls, including advanced mill/turn machines with Y-axis and sub-spindle capability.
Key Responsibilities*Set and operate CNC turning centres to produce high-quality components
*Work from engineering drawings, process sheets, and tooling documentation
*Make adjustments or edits to CNC programs at the machine where necessary
*Ensure programs are running efficiently and components meet required specifications
*Use a range of measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, etc.) to verify accuracy
*Maintain high standards of quality, precision, and productivity
*Follow all health and safety procedures at all times
*Support general workshop activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations
Skills & ExperienceEssential:*Proven experience setting and operating CNC turning machines (2-axis)
*Working knowledge of CNC controls such as Fanuc and/or Mazatrol or other conversational systems
*Strong ability to set, prove out, and run jobs independently
*Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings
*Good understanding of machining techniques, materials, cutting tools, speeds, and feeds
*Experience using precision measuring instruments
*High attention to detail with the ability to work to tight tolerances
*Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
Desirable:*Experience working with mill/turn machines, including Y-axis and sub-spindle
*Familiarity with conversational programming systems (training can be provided)
*Knowledge of quality standards within regulated industries (e.g. aerospace)
*Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience
