Job Description:
Waste Collection Driver (Cat C1) // Waste Collection Operative
*Location: Barnsley
*Job Type: Dual Role, Full-time, Temp
*Hourly Rate: Driver £14.82 // Collection £13.26
Workers receive the Driver rate on days driving, and the Collection rate on days not driving.
We are seeking a Waste Collection Driver to join our multi-disciplinary team. This role is crucial in delivering council services throughout the borough, focusing on the household waste collection service.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Undertake a wide range of physically and mentally demanding operational duties in all weather conditions.
*Ensure the safe and efficient completion of daily tasks, prioritising the safety of employees, colleagues, and the public.
*Operate mechanical machinery for emptying refuse containers and maintain the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of vehicles, plant, machinery, and equipment.
*Provide excellent customer service, handle service requests politely, and escalate issues as necessary.
*Work under the guidance of a line manager, using personal initiative to meet professional standards and deadlines.
*Train and advise other employees, apprentices, trainees, and students in safe working practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Valid UK driving licence to ’Category C1’ standard
*Experience in a waste management environment
*Strong knowledge of Health and Safety as it applies to daily duties
*Excellent communication skills and the ability to handle operational tasks effectively
*Ability to work flexibly and undertake necessary training related to the role
*Willingness to undertake Manual Handling, Needle Stick, and IOSH Working Safely training if not already certified
*Ability to travel as required for the role
