Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: Office-based, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

A well-established and growing food distribution and meat wholesale business based in Banbury (OX16) is looking to recruit a Purchase Ledger Manager to lead its busy finance team.
Operating within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, the business supplies a wide range of food products across the UK and forms part of a wider retail and distribution group. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a high-volume SME environment and enjoys leading processes, improving efficiencies, and building strong supplier relationships.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Purchase Ledger Manager, you will take ownership of the accounts payable function, ensuring efficient processing, strong financial controls, and effective team management.
Your responsibilities will include:
*Overseeing the end-to-end purchase ledger function
*Managing and supporting the purchase ledger team
*Ensuring high-volume supplier invoices and credit notes are processed accurately and efficiently
*Reviewing and approving invoice matching, batching, and coding
*Overseeing supplier statement reconciliations and resolving complex discrepancies
*Managing supplier relationships and handling escalated queries
*Leading weekly and monthly payment runs
*Driving improvements in processes, controls, and system efficiencies
*Supporting month-end and year-end close processes and reporting
*Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with internal controls
*Liaising with internal departments including purchasing, operations, and logistics
Experience & SkillsThe ideal candidate will have strong experience within purchase ledger or accounts payable, along with leadership or supervisory experience, ideally within a food distribution, FMCG, wholesale, or logistics environment.
You should have:
*Proven experience in a Purchase Ledger / Accounts Payable role, with supervisory or management responsibilities
*Experience working within a fast-paced SME or growing business
*Strong leadership and team management skills
*Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities
*Ability to manage high volumes of financial transactions and prioritise workload
*Strong Excel and accounting system skills
*Confident communication skills when dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders
