Safeguarding Officer
£26250 - £30000 Permanent Full Time Monday to Friday
Covering the Study Programme centres in Crewe and Northwich sites

This role provides front-line welfare and safeguarding support for learners within our Study Programme provision, primarily supporting 16–18-year-olds and 19+ learners with an EHCP across our Crewe and Northwich sites.
The Safeguarding Officer will work closely with the Study Programme Manager and the DSL / Safeguarding and EDI Lead to ensure learners feel safe, listened to and supported to thrive. The main focus of the role is to respond to and support low and medium-level safeguarding and welfare concerns, offering timely advice, guidance, intervention and signposting. High-level concerns will be led by the DSL, with support from the Safeguarding Officer as appropriate.
A core part of the role is building trusted relationships with learners and colleagues, supporting mental health and wellbeing, helping young people to stay safe, and ensuring all concerns are recorded accurately and promptly in line with safeguarding procedures.


Safeguarding and Welfare Support
*Provide a visible, approachable safeguarding presence across Study Programme sites including but not exclusive to Crewe and Northwich sites.
*Respond to learner welfare and safeguarding concerns in a calm, caring and timely way.
*Manage and support low and medium-level safeguarding and welfare concerns, seeking advice from the DSL and escalating promptly where risk increases.
*Provide practical, supportive interventions that help learners stay safe, well and engaged in learning.
*Working with Learners
*Build trusted, supportive relationships with learners, particularly those who face barriers to learning and may need additional help to stay safe and healthy.
*Provide advice, guidance and reassurance around key safeguarding and welfare themes for example, mental health, wellbeing, self-care, healthy relationships, online safety and personal safety.
*Support learners to develop confidence, resilience and skills to keep themselves safe.
Working with Colleagues
*Act as a first point of contact for Study Programme colleagues seeking safeguarding advice or guidance.
*Support colleagues to share concerns early and confidently, reinforcing professional curiosity and safe practice.
*Work closely with the Programme Manager to support consistent safeguarding and welfare practice on site.
Essential experience
*Experience of working directly with young people in an education, training, youth or support setting.
*Experience of supporting young people with mental health, wellbeing and personal safety.
*Experience of responding to welfare concerns and providing advice, guidance and signposting.
*Experience of working with, or supporting, learners with additional needs, including learners with an EHCP.
*Understanding of safeguarding principles, legislation and best practice relevant to post-16 learners.
Desirable
*Previous experience as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).
*Experience of supporting Early Help referrals and working with Early Help processes.
*Experience using CPOMS or similar safeguarding recording systems.
*A safeguarding or DSL qualification, or willingness to work towards one. A youth work, pastoral or safeguarding-related qualification.
