Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) are looking for a dedicated and resilient individual to undertake the role of Specialist Home Safety Operative.
This is a frontline, community-based role supporting some of the most vulnerable people across Nottinghamshire. You will carry out Safe and Well visits in people’s homes, providing fire safety advice, installing safety equipment and identifying wider safeguarding or support needs. The role involves working independently across the county and entering a wide range of domestic environments.
This is a physically active role which includes transporting and fitting safety equipment such as smoke alarms and other special assistance items within domestic properties. You will be required to undertake dynamic risk assessments, follow lone working procedures and manage your workload effectively to meet agreed Service expectations.
This role will attract people who are practical, organised and motivated to make a genuine difference in the community we serve.
Key Responsibilities
*Undertake Safe and Well visits within domestic settings and make referrals to other organisations where vulnerability or safeguarding concerns are identified
*Provide clear and coherent home fire safety advice.
*Install and fit safety equipment such as smoke alarms and other safety adaptations, ensuring safe manual handling and high quality completion.
*Use databases to research, record and maintain accurate, contemporaneous information.
*Work independently across Nottinghamshire, managing a structured schedule of visits and achieving agreed service delivery expectations.
*Liaise with the Community Safety department and other key services to help vulnerable people.
*Undertake dynamic risk assessments and operate in accordance with lone working procedures.
Experience/Qualifications
*Experience working and communicating with the public and partner organisations.
*Experience working independently and managing workload effectively.
*Experience in using tools and fitting equipment to a high standard in households.
*Knowledge of key issues facing vulnerable communities and a working understanding of health and safety.
*Ability to maintain accurate records and deliver clear written and verbal communication.
*Full UK driving licence and commitment to travel across Nottinghamshire.
*Willingness to undertake relevant training including First Aid and lone working training.
