Job Description:
Elevation are working on a fantastic opportunity for a reputable business based in Sheffield who are looking to further expand their engineering teams with a CAD/CAM Programmer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like their voice to be heard, work as part of a team and bring fresh insights to the team by supporting continuous improvement, growth and innovation.
As a CAD/CAM engineer you will play a key role in taking products from concept to production, making sure they’re built in the most cost-effective and efficient way possible.
This role involves working closely with Operations, Quality, Planning, and customers to ensure everything runs smoothly; from early design input to solving problems on the shop floor. You’ll manage multiple engineering projects, improve processes, reduce costs, and help us deliver world-class parts, particularly for the aerospace and orthopaedics industries.
What You’ll Be Doing As a CAD/CAM Programmer:
*Lead and manage multiple engineering projects, tracking progress and flagging risks early
*Own the manufacturing process for your assigned programs to ensure smooth production
*Represent Engineering in daily operations meetings and help drive resolution of actions
*Provide cost estimates and technical input for customer quotations
*Monitor project costs and work to stay within targets
*Use your experience to improve machining processes and reduce cycle times
*Solve production issues using tools like 8D or DMAIC
*Program CNC machines (multi-axis, mill-turn, turning) using CAM software (Hypermill, MasterCam)
*Design fixtures and tooling using CAD (preferably Siemens NX)
*Create in-process documentation and prints
*Work closely with Planning, Quality, Production and customers
What We’re Looking For From a CAD/CAM Programmer:
Essential Skills & Experience:
*Strong background in CNC programming and machining
*Experience with CAM systems such as Hypermill, Mastercam, or Vericut
*CAD experience, ideally Siemens NX
*Solid understanding of Lean principles and process optimisation
*Confident with GD&T and reading technical drawings
*Familiarity with ERP systems (creating BOMs, routings, item masters)
*Excellent communication and collaboration skills
*Experience in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
Desirable:
*Aerospace and/or orthopaedics manufacturing experience
*Knowledge of process capability and measurement systems
*Skilled in cost estimating and project tracking
Qualifications
*Time-served apprenticeship in engineering or a degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering
*5+ years of experience in a similar role
