My client are looking for full time Band 4 Residential Staff to work in Northern Ireland.
Shift Times: 07:30am - 20:00pm - 5 shifts a week 37.5 hours per week 24/7 rota.
Must have a UK Driving Licence.
JOB SUMMARY
The residential staff member will work as a member of a residential team to create a warm caring environment which meets the emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual needs of a group of Looked After young people aged 10-18 years living in the residential home. The objective is to care for young people in a planned environment and the organisation and management of the home must be orientated towards the realisation of this goal.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Together with other team members to share the responsibility for the care and supervision of young persons within the home during the night time hours.
Be required to be active throughout their shift in their care / supervisory duties and in carrying out specific instructions as directed regarding the supervision and monitoring of young people to ensure their safety.
Ensure that appropriate records are maintained, particularly those detailing observations and/or assessment of each young person, in accordance with statutory requirements and agreed policy and procedures.
Appropriately support and care for the young people in a crisis or significant event.This will require relevant knowledge, skills and values including emotional intelligence and resilience as per Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model & the Northern Ireland Framework for Integrated Therapeutic Care. Care staff will receive ongoing training and assessment in these models, relevant to their role.
Keep in contact with parents/carers as appropriate (if situation during the night-time requires this), and as appropriate, other professional staff, regarding the needs of the young people.
Participate in staff meetings, consultations, group discussions, reflective practice and formal supervision as required.
Develop appropriate relationships which will promote the growth and development of the young people with the aim of encouraging emotional maturity and socially acceptable behaviour.
Maintain contact with the local community as required to meet the needs of the young people.
To foster a culture and ethos within the home in which the needs of children are paramount and which provides them with security, safety, care and education, enabling them to meet their full potential
To be sensitive to the needs of individual children, taking account of race, culture, language and religion. This includes accompanying young people when necessary to places of worship, holidays, outings, and on other relevant occasions.
Contribute to the daily life of the home through engaging with the young people in activities such as bedtime routines, housework, maintenance of clothing, cooking and promoting personal care.
Assist with the supervision of clothing for young people, the care of furnishings and household equipment.
Administer medication, drugs and first aid in accordance with trust policy. Training and competency assessment will be undertaken.
Undertake household and domestic duties appropriate to the care of young people and the cleanliness and maintenance of the home.
Ensure that environmental safety is maintained; this includes completing night checks within the immediate home / building and responding to any alerts by safety / security systems (Fire Panels).
Participate in and contribute to training programs when appropriate. The role is contingent upon successful completion of all mandatory training as outlined by the Trust and RQIA Minimum Standards. All staff must attend training and pass to the expected standards as required for the role.
Undertake duties in connection with the proper receipt, recording and safe custody of public and trust fund monies for the facility.
Engage / participate in handovers both at the beginning of the shift and the end; to ensure that effective communication and a team approach in the care of the young people is maintained.
Ensure a working knowledge of all Risk Assessments and Individual Crisis Support Plans for each young person in the home, update risk assessments / ICSP’s / daily records as required and contribute to Corporate Risk Assessments for young people.
Ensure appropriate action to identify, manage and report risk to maintain safety of young people, themselves and others according to Regional and Trust Safeguarding procedures. All safeguarding events must be reported to the appropriate personnel.
Use a partnership working approach with other professionals / agencies in the assessment, planning and implementation of actions agreed. Agencies most likely to be working with are Shift Co-ordinators / OOH Manager (where appropriate) / RESWS / PSNI / Out of Hours GP / Hospital Services/Emergency Services.
Ability to drive a car and use of own car for business purposes to enable residential support worker to take young people out for appointments, activities and outings and to manage group dynamics within the home. To also drive the home vehicle when necessary, subject to the completion of a test with the Trust transport department, and contingent upon age (for insurance purposes).
Adhere to Trust policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
Be aware of and implement the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Order (NI) 1979 as it pertains to this post and comply with the Trust’s Safety Policy.
Any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the Trust.
