Role: Personal Advisor (Leaving Care)
Location: Tameside
Grade: 6
Hours: Full-time
Driving licence required
About the RoleWe’re looking for a compassionate and motivated Personal Advisor to support young people aged 16–25 as they transition into adulthood.
This role is ideal for someone who understands trauma-informed practice and is passionate about helping care-experienced young people feel safe, supported, valued and connected. You will build strong, consistent relationships and advocate for young people, ensuring their needs, wishes and goals are at the centre of every decision.
What You’ll Be Doing*Working within statutory guidelines for young people leaving care, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people
*Completing pathway plan assessments, visits, and direct work with young people
*Supporting young people with education, training, employment, accommodation, health and wellbeing
*Advocating for young people and ensuring their wishes and feelings are heard
*Liaising with multiple agencies to coordinate support
*Supporting involvement in community-based activities
*Promoting safe care and raising awareness of exploitation risks
*Maintaining accurate records and case files
*Participating in duty systems, team meetings, training and service development
*Supporting group work and co-produced projects with young people
About YouEssential Qualifications
*NVQ Level 3 in Care of Children & Young People / NNEB / BTEC or equivalent
Essential Skills & Experience
*Strong communication with young people, families, colleagues and professionals
*Ability to engage young people in safe, comfortable settings
*Skills in planning, organising, recording and completing assessments
*Understanding of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice
*Ability to analyse interactions and demonstrate empathy
*Confidence working with young people under stress or experiencing loss
*Commitment to co-production and joint working
*Objective, transparent and respectful practice
*IT literacy and accurate digital record-keeping
*Motivated, creative and committed to achieving practice standards
Desirable Experience
*Working with families affected by substance misuse or domestic abuse
*Knowledge of child development and attachment
*Experience in direct work with children and young people
*Understanding of education, employment and training pathways
*Awareness of community resources for young people
