Job Introduction
We are looking for an Income Collection Officer to join our Homes Team, undertaking a range of income collection duties relating to rent and service charge income for private rented and social housing residents. You will provide a coordinated, flexible, and effective income collection service and will be responsible for achieving and maintaining low levels of current rent and former tenancy arrears, ensuring maximised income recovery. You will work closely with the Income Manager and housing management teams to meet arrears targets.
The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator with the ability to build trust and rapport with residents, even in challenging situations. You’ll bring a proactive and empathetic approach to income recovery, strong knowledge of housing income management and welfare benefits, and a genuine commitment to supporting tenants. This is an ongoing temporary hybrid position.
Key Responsibilities:
*Proactively reduce rent arrears across all accounts to meet monthly targets, including producing reports, engaging with residents, preparing legal instructions, serving notices, conducting home visits, applying for direct payments, attending court when required, and offering advice to help residents sustain tenancies.
*Take ownership of individual performance targets and contribute to the overall success of the income collection service.
*Identify residents who may benefit from specialist welfare or financial inclusion support and refer them appropriately.
*Liaise effectively with external agencies (Local Authorities, DWP, social services, etc.) to support income recovery.
*Respond to arrears-related correspondence and provide accurate information to assist in resolving formal complaints.
*Plan and manage workload efficiently, ensuring accounts are monitored weekly and targets consistently met.
Key Requirements:
*Experience working in housing and income collection or credit control.
*Practical knowledge of income recovery processes.
*Confident using housing management systems to monitor and manage accounts.
*Solid understanding of housing law, including Pre-Action Protocols.
*Knowledge of welfare benefits, particularly Universal Credit and Housing Benefit.
*Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
What We Offer:
*A supportive, inclusive, and values-driven working environment.
*Flexible working arrangements and hybrid working model.
*Opportunities for career development and personal growth.
*Benefits may include additional leave, enhanced pension, life assurance, private medical insurance, cycle-to-work scheme, employee assistance programme, retail discounts, and more.
