We are looking for an experienced and proactive Reactive & Planned Service Engineer to join our Fire, Security & TECS team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out both emergency reactive call-outs and scheduled preventative maintenance across a range of life safety, security, and telecom systems.
This role requires strong fault-finding ability, excellent customer service skills, and the capability to work independently across multiple sites while maintaining high compliance and safety standards.
The Job you’ll do
*Respond to emergency call-outs within agreed SLAs.
*Be part of an out of hours support team.
*Diagnose and rectify faults across fire, security, and telecom systems.
*Provide temporary and permanent solutions to system failures.
*Complete detailed service reports and documentation.
*Communicate clearly with clients regarding system status and required remedial works.
*Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM):
*Carry out routine servicing and inspections in line with industry standards and contracts.
*Test and inspect fire alarm systems (conventional and addressable).
*Service intruder alarms, CCTV (IP & analogue), and access control systems.
*Maintain TECS including structured cabling, intercoms, and associated infrastructure.
*Identify and report system deficiencies and recommend remedial actions.
*Systems Experience
*Fire Alarm Systems (BS5839 compliant)
*Intruder Alarms
*CCTV Systems (IP-based systems preferred)
*Access Control Systems
*Emergency Lighting (BS5266 compliant)
*TECS / Structured Cabling / Door Entry Systems
About You
Essential:
*Proven experience in servicing fire and security systems.
*Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
*Knowledge of relevant British Standards and industry regulations.
*Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
*Full UK driving licence.
*Good IT skills for digital reporting systems.
*Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Desirable
*FIA qualification or relevant fire & security certifications.
*ECS/CSCS card.
*IPAF/PASMA.
*Experience with major manufacturers’ systems.
*Knowledge of SSAIB or NSI compliance requirements.
*Personal Attributes.
*Highly organised and self-motivated.
*Professional and client-focused.
*Strong attention to detail.
*Calm under pressure during emergency call-outs.
*Flexible with out-of-hours work and on-call rota.
