Interim CEO (3 days/week) – Public Interest Organisation – £400/day
  • England,London,City of London
  • Part Time, Temporary
  • £400 per day
Job Description:
Standards don’t pause. Leadership shouldn’t either.
Public service interpreters work in courtrooms, police stations and clinical settings where a miscommunication can cost someone their liberty, their safety, or their health. The National Register of Public Service Interpreters exists to make sure the professionals doing that work are qualified, accountable, and trusted.
Right now, they need an experienced leader to provide stability, continuity and calm, assured leadership.
NRPSI is the independent voluntary register for public service interpreters in the UK.
With the retirement of the current CEO imminent, the Board is taking a considered approach to succession and is seeking an interim leader to provide confident oversight while the permanent CEO and Registrar appointment is completed.
Registrar responsibilities will sit with the Deputy Registrar during this period, allowing the interim CEO to focus on organisational leadership, external relationships and visibility.
Your focus will be operational and external: keeping the organisation running smoothly, supporting a small and dedicated remote team of five, maintaining key stakeholder relationships, overseeing financial controls and reporting, and ensuring the Board has what it needs to govern effectively. You will bring confident, steady leadership and the credibility to represent NRPSI externally, quickly building an understanding of the organisation and its stakeholders.
This is a role for someone who can step in quickly, establish credibility and provide immediate continuity. You will be eligible to apply for the permanent role, should you wish to do so.
You’ll bring
*Director or C-suite level leadership experience within a charity, not-for-profit, membership body or similarly regulated environment where public protection or the public interest sits at the heart of what you do
*Experience providing confident operational leadership in a small or lean organisation
*Financial literacy; comfortable with budgets, expenditure oversight and board-level reporting
*Confidence engaging with Boards, external stakeholders and an active membership community
*The agility to step into an interim role and make an immediate, positive impact
*Emotional intelligence and political awareness, with the ability to hold trust across a diverse range of stakeholders
Key Information
*Day rate: £400 per day
*Contract: Interim (approx. 3–4 months)
*Location: Fully remote
*Working pattern: 3 days per week
*Direct reports: 5
*Engagement: Ltd company arrangements welcome
*IR35: Expected to be outside IR35, status to be confirmed
*Start date: Mid-April 2026
