Payroll Assistant - Didcot
Seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Payroll Assistant for a 9-month fixed term contract to take responsibility for the day-to-day administration and preparation of our Distribution payrolls. This role is essential in ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing and supporting strong collaboration between Payroll and HR teams. Reporting to the Deputy Payroll Manager, you will manage monthly payroll preparation, variance reconciliations, management reporting, and be the primary point of contact.
Responsibilities
*Accurately collate, verify, and enter payroll data while meeting strict deadlines.
*Fully prepare monthly Distribution payrolls for review, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
*Work closely with HR teams to build strong, collaborative relationships and support a "one team" approach.
*Complete pay-element variance reconciliations and support month-on-month reporting.
*Respond promptly and professionally to payroll-related enquiries from HR and employees.
*Support the development, documentation, and implementation of efficient, compliant payroll procedures.
*Ensure adherence to financial controls and policies across all payroll functions.
Skills & Experience
*Solid understanding of payroll processes, including statutory payments, pension rules
*Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
*Excel skills (pivot tables, subtotals, text-to-columns, VLOOKUPs).
*High level of numeracy and attention to detail.
*Experience - Minimum 1 year’s experience as a Payroll Assistant (essential).
*Qualifications - CIPP qualification (desirable but not essential).
Personal Attributes
*Proactive and able to take ownership of tasks and deliver results quickly.
*Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
*Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across departments.
*Methodical, organised, and able to manage workload effectively.
*Confident communicator at all levels within the business.
