Deputy Technical Operation Lead
Location: Huntingdon, UK

A Deputy IT Technical Operations Lead acts as a senior, hands-on deputy to the Head of Technical Operations Lead, combining technical expertise with team leadership to ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of IT infrastructure. They will be responsible for project delivery, as assigned by the Technical Ops Lead, in the operational environment. They are responsible for driving operational excellence, supporting high-priority incidents, and mentoring staff, often serving as the escalation point for complex technical issues.
Key Responsibilities
* Operational Leadership: Deputise for the Technical Operations Lead, overseeing daily IT operations, including monitoring and maintaining infrastructure (networks, servers, cloud) to ensure high availability.
* Team Mentorship & Management: Line manage or support the development of IT staff, conducting 1-2-1s, performance reviews, and identifying training needs to foster a high-performance culture.
* Incident & Escalation Management: Serve as a technical point of escalation for high-priority incidents, performing root-cause analysis (RCA) and driving resolution.
* Infrastructure & Security: Oversee technical projects, system updates, and security implementations (e.g., patching, backups, firewall management).
* Acting as Technical Ops Lead: Attend meetings representing Technical Ops Lead when delegated to. Review of HLDs/LLDs for Agile Change and Cores Services on behalf of Technical Ops Lead.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Experience: Typically 5-6+ years in IT support, infrastructure/network engineering, or technical operations, with proven team leadership experience.
* Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of network infrastructure (VPNs, VLANs, Firewalls, DNS), Microsoft products, server administration, Storage/hardware and monitoring tools.
* Leadership: Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and mentor team members.
* Tools: Familiarity with ITSM tools (e.g., Jira Service Desk, ServiceNow) and ITIL methodologies.
* Certifications (Often Desired): ITIL Foundation, Microsoft certifications, or relevant networking certifications (e.g., Cisco).
Typical Working Relationships
* Reports to: Technical Operations Lead.
* Collaborates with: Project Managers, Service Desk Agents, Security Teams, and External Vendors.
