Job Description:
Street Services Operative
*Hourly Rate: £13.69 per hr paye
*Location: Rochdale Council
*Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 - 3 months)
Rochdale Council are looking for a Street Services Operative to join our Environmental Management team. This role is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic quality of our streets and open spaces. The position involves a variety of tasks, including litter collection, horticultural operations, and maintenance duties across the borough.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Collect all types of litter from the street scene environment using both manual methods and mechanical sweepers, as defined by the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
*Undertake horticultural operations to maintain open spaces, including grass cutting with pedestrian and ride-on mowing machines.
*Perform turf management operations, prepare and maintain bedding displays, and care for trees, shrubs, and plants.
*Remove litter and dog fouling manually and by using mechanical means, including emptying of litter/dog fouling bins.
*Report any obstructions or problems that prevent tasks from being completed.
*Cut grass plots within the street scene environment using mowers, strimmer’s, and other ancillary equipment.
*Manually weed flower and shrub beds as directed.
*Act as an environmental steward by identifying and reporting issues such as graffiti and vandalism.
*Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with Corporate and Service Policies, and report any incidents that may cause potential harm or injury.
*Assist the public in a courteous and helpful manner and act as stewards for events and activities within the service.
*Undertake snow clearing, salting of pathways, cleaning of signs, benches, and features during inclement weather, and clean drains, gullies, and water courses.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Valid Full UK Driving Licence, able to drive manual and automatic vehicles.
*Experience in street services, environmental management, or a related field.
*Ability to operate mechanical sweepers, mowing machines, and other related equipment.
*Strong awareness of safety and environmental regulations.
*Good physical fitness to perform manual tasks across various locations.
*Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
