Senior Client Bookkeeper / Accountant
Southend-on-Sea / Leigh-on-Sea, Essex
£35,000 – £45,000 (DOE)

The Opportunity
We are working with one of the most commercially focused and highly respected accountancy and business services firms in the Essex area.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Senior Client Bookkeeper / Accountant to take ownership of a portfolio of clients, whilst also supporting and supervising junior members of the team.
This is a highly client-facing role within a modern, forward-thinking firm that values commercial awareness, strong relationships, and proactive thinking.
You will be responsible for:
• Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of sectors
• Preparing and reviewing VAT returns
• Producing management accounts
• Assisting with statutory accounts preparation
• Supporting clients with systems and software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks)
• Acting as a key point of contact for client queries
Supervising and supporting junior staff, reviewing work and providing guidance
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility, both client-side and internally within the team.
What We are Looking For:
• Strong experience within an accountancy practice environment
• Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
• Experience with Xero, Sage and/or QuickBooks
• Exposure to VAT returns and accounts preparation
• Ideally experience with IRIS (not essential)
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
• Confident, professional, and client-focused approach
