Job Description:
Democratic Services Officer
*Job Type: Temporary, Full-time (Hybrid)
*Location: Swinton, M27 5DA
*Duration: 10 months
*Pay: £16.23 per hour PAYE
Salford City Council are seeking a Democratic Services Officer for a maternity cover of up to 10 months. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide effective, efficient, and professional support within their Democratic Services team. You will work closely with elected members, officers, schools, and external partners, contributing significantly to our Governance 360 Improvement Programme.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
*Provide an effective, professional Democratic Services support service to Members, officers, schools and external partners
*Support the delivery of committee meetings and hearings, including preparation of agendas, papers and minutes
*Administer school admission appeals, including scheduling hearings and acting as the main point of contact for schools and appellants
*Produce high-quality documentation, appeal packs and correspondence tailored to different audiences
*Liaise with directorates and partners to coordinate meetings, hearings and Democratic Services arrangements
*Organise meetings and Member briefings, including venues, catering, travel and attendance tracking
*Support Members with access to governance systems (e.g. mod.gov) and information to aid decision-making
*Assist Senior Democratic Services Officers with committee operations and broader Democratic Services functions
*Contribute to the Council’s Governance 360 Improvement Programme and continuous improvement of governance processes
*Manage competing priorities with judgement, discretion and regard for confidentiality
*Attend occasional evening meetings where required
*Promote good governance, equality, health and safety, and Council values in all aspects of the role
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience in democratic services, governance, committee services, or similar administrative support is highly desirable.
*Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks.
*Excellent communication skills and the ability to work confidently with a diverse range of stakeholders.
*A commitment to good governance and alignment with the Council’s values.
*Training will be provided, so a willingness to learn and develop is essential.
