Observability Engineer (Contract) – London (Hybrid)
Contract: 6 months initially
Location: London (3 days onsite per week)
Rate: £600-700 per day Inside IR35, Umbrella Company Rate
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Observability Engineer to join a growing cross-functional initiative designed to deliver real-time monitoring, alerting and remediation capabilities across a complex trading and data environment.
You’ll play a key role in the rollout of Dynatrace , help define and champion implementation standards, and work closely with leaders and SMEs across Front Office Support, IT, Data and Architecture to maximise the value of observability across the organisation.
What You’ll Do
*Partner with senior members of the Observability team to drive the observability strategy across the business.
*Build bottom-up monitoring to understand system performance, SLOs/SLIs, bottlenecks and root causes.
*Translate architectural and data-flow diagrams into deployment plans for Dynatrace agents, configurations, dashboards and alerting.
*Support the instrumentation of OpenTelemetry data in collaboration with developers, product owners and architects.
*Configure and optimise Dynatrace and produce high-quality documentation for end-to-end monitoring processes.
*Work with project teams to integrate Data Quality metrics into observability frameworks.
*Partner with stakeholders to strengthen logging, data quality standards and alignment with data architecture principles.
*Promote and enable wider adoption of observability tools to improve system reliability and product performance.
What You’ll Bring
*Strong hands-on experience with Dynatrace , including deploying OneAgents and configuring diverse data sources.
*Proven experience running root-cause analysis across distributed, complex systems.
*Practical experience using OpenTelemetry for monitoring, debugging or performance reporting.
*Background supporting end-to-end data or distributed application projects with an internal monitoring component.
*Familiarity with defining and deriving SLIs/SLOs .
*Good knowledge of both cloud and on-premise technologies.
*Experience with data orchestration tools; Dagster exposure is a bonus.
*Data analysis and wrangling skills using SQL and Python .
*Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability and project management capability.
