Temporary Medical & First Aid Coordinator – East London School

Hours: 08:30 – 16:30 (35 hours per week)
Hourly Rate: £20.60 – £21.00
Reporting to: School Business Manager
As Medical & First Aid Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of pupils and staff. Working closely with safeguarding teams, families, and external health professionals, you will ensure pupils with medical and complex health needs are effectively supported in a safe and nurturing environment. You must be Paediatric First Aid trained and have school nursing experience.
This is a varied, hands-on temporary role at the heart of the school’s pastoral and wellbeing provision.

Key Responsibilities
Medical Care & Wellbeing
*Coordinate and oversee all medical needs across the school
*Maintain accurate pupil health records and healthcare plans
*Complete and review medical risk assessments
*Support pupils with complex or ongoing health conditions
*Work with small groups on health and wellbeing initiatives
Medication & Resources
*Manage and monitor all on-site medication
*Liaise with parents/carers regarding medication updates
*Maintain the medical room to a high standard
*Ensure first aid kits and equipment are stocked, logged, and operational
First Aid & Emergency Response
*Act as lead first aider and first responder
*Manage medical emergencies and liaise with emergency services and families
*Accompany pupils to hospital or appointments where required
*Oversee and deliver first aid training as needed
Liaison & Health Promotion
*Coordinate health assessments with the school nurse
*Arrange in-school immunisations and medical examinations
*Attend health-related and multi-agency meetings (TAFs, TACs)
*Deliver health briefings, assemblies, and staff guidance
Safeguarding & Trips
*Work closely with the safeguarding team
*Ensure medical risk assessments are completed for all school trips
Person Specification
*Relevant experience or qualification in medical care or first aid
*First Aid at Work qualification (or willingness to obtain)
*Strong safeguarding awareness and confidentiality
*Excellent organisation, communication, and record-keeping skills
*Calm and professional approach in emergency situations
