Audit & Accounts Semi-Senior
Location: Wanstead, Essex (Hybrid – 2 days WFH)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours
Reporting to: Director
A well-established accountancy practice is seeking an Audit & Accounts Semi-Senior to join its Wanstead office. This role is ideal for a part-qualified accountant looking to gain greater responsibility across accounts and audit in a supportive practice environment.
The firm is open to candidates who may have experienced ACA/ACCA exam failures and are looking for the right setting to regain momentum and continue their qualification while building solid practice experience.
Candidates must be based locally to Wanstead / Essex, ideally within a 30-minute commute.
The role is 70% accounts and 30% audit, offering a balanced and varied workload.
Responsibilities
*Prepare statutory accounts for SME clients with limited supervision
*Draft disclosures and identify standard accounting adjustments
*Take responsibility for allocated audit sections
*Perform substantive and controls testing
*Produce clear, well-documented working papers
*Support junior staff during audit fieldwork
*Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries
Candidate Profile
*Part-qualified ACA / ACCA (QBE considered)
*Exam resits or prior exam failures will be considered
*1+ years’ experience within a practice environment
*Exposure to audit work
*Strong double-entry bookkeeping skills
*Basic tax knowledge (CT, VAT, PAYE)
*Experience with Xero, Excel, and Word (IRIS preferred)
*Organised, communicative, and client-focused
