Pupils typically present with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition, SEMH, trauma-related needs and complex behavioural profiles. The provision focuses on re-engagement, regulation and long-term positive outcomes for pupils, both academically and emotionally.
As an SEN Teacher, you will deliver a highly adapted curriculum to small classes or groups. Teaching will be relationship-led, practical and responsive to pupil needs. The role requires a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach, with a strong focus on behaviour support, emotional regulation and re-engagement with education.
You will work closely with behaviour leads, pastoral staff and external agencies to ensure pupils receive a joined-up, supportive experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons suited to pupils in PRU or AP settings
- Teach pupils with SEMH, ASC and complex behavioural needs
- Create a structured, safe and nurturing classroom environment
- Support pupils to regulate emotions and re-engage with learning
- Use restorative and trauma-informed behaviour strategies
- Track progress using appropriate assessment methods
- Contribute to EHCP targets, behaviour plans and reintegration plans
- Work collaboratively with support staff, families and external professionals
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status
- Have experience teaching in a PRU, Alternative Provision or specialist SEN setting
- Be confident managing and supporting challenging behaviour
- Understand the needs of pupils disengaged from mainstream education
- Be patient, resilient and adaptable in their teaching approach
- Communicate effectively with pupils, staff and families
Further training or qualifications in areas such as SEMH, behaviour support, trauma-informed practice or intervention teaching are advantageous, though not essential.
The role is ideally full time, Monday to Friday during term time. Flexible working patterns may be considered for experienced candidates.
What the Provision Offers
- A supportive leadership team with a strong pastoral focus
- Small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios
- Ongoing CPD related to SEMH and behaviour support
- A purposeful role supporting pupils at a critical point in their education
