Research Scientist - Materials Chemist
£40,000 - £44,000 + 37 Days Holiday + Progression + Cutting-Edge Technology + Pension + Training

Are you a Materials Chemist or Research Scientist looking to take a hands-on role in developing breakthrough recycling technology whilst progressing your career in a fast-growing climate tech business?
This is a rare opportunity to join a venture-backed cleantech company developing innovative chemical recycling processes to recover high-value composite materials for use across aerospace, defence, automotive, and renewable energy sectors.
The company is entering an exciting growth phase and is expanding its research team. You’ll play a key role in developing and scaling a novel resin removal technology that is helping create sustainable alternatives to landfill and incineration.
This role focuses on designing and delivering structured experimental programmes, analysing materials performance, and supporting the development of new chemical systems that improve recycling performance and fibre recovery.
The Person
*PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or similar
OR
*MSc qualified with 3+ years’ experience in chemical or materials R&D
*Knowledge of COSHH, H&S protocols, and laboratory procedures
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
*Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
The Role
*Design and deliver structured experimental programmes to develop and optimise chemical recycling processes
*Analyse experimental data and translate findings into clear technical insights and improvements
*Support innovation, new research directions, and intellectual property development
*Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while managing documentation, reporting, and project milestones
