HR Assistant (Interim)
Location: Lewes (office-based)
Contract: Temporary / Interim
Sector: Public Sector / HR & People Services
About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced HR Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative support to a busy HR & OD team. This is a varied and fast-paced role supporting the full employee lifecycle, with a strong focus on recruitment administration, onboarding, HR systems, and compliance.
This opportunity is ideal for a highly organised HR administrator who enjoys managing multiple priorities and delivering a high-quality, customer-focused HR service.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide end-to-end recruitment administration, from advert placement through to onboarding
*Coordinate pre-employment checks, including compliance, vetting and right-to-work checks
*Support onboarding and leavers processes, ensuring accurate documentation and system updates
*Maintain and update HR systems and electronic personnel records accurately and in a timely manner
*Act as a first point of contact for HR queries, providing guidance or escalating where appropriate
*Produce HR data and reports as required
*Support absence, leave, TOIL and working pattern administration
*Manage HR inboxes, correspondence and filing in line with data protection requirements
*Assist with wider HR projects and administrative tasks as required
Essential Skills & Experience
*Proven experience in an HR administration or HR assistant role
*Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
*Experience using HR systems and databases with high levels of accuracy
*Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload
*Strong written and verbal communication skills
*High attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
*Professional, discreet approach with an understanding of confidentiality and data protection
Desirable
*Previous experience working in a busy HR department
*HR qualification or working towards a CIPD Level 3 (or equivalent)
*Public sector or large organisation experience

*Pre-employment checks will be required due to the nature of the organisation
*Flexibility may be required during peak periods
