We have an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Lab Technician to join our team in Milton Keynes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a laboratory environment, has a strong focus on quality and food safety, and values a great shift pattern.
The successful candidate will provide analytical and microbiological services to support operations in achieving right first-time quality standards.
Working Hours
*Shift Times: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM; 4 days on / 4 days off
*Pay Rate: £13.92 per hour -up to 48 hours
£20.88 per hour- overtime rate
*Training Week: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
*Carry out scheduled sampling of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods for chemical and microbiological analysis
*Analyze samples in accordance with specified methods and procedures
*Communicate results outside specification to Technical and Production Managers to enable corrective actions
*Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy laboratory working environment
*Ensure compliance with the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Hygiene Regulations (as amended 2005)
*Follow company health and safety procedures and proactively support continuous improvement
*Provide technical support to other departments when required
*Support Technical Management with quality system implementation and project work
*Ensure all analytical equipment is maintained and calibrated in line with required standards and schedules
*Conduct product sensory panels in line with business requirements
*Ensure all raw materials and laboratory chemicals are within acceptable date criteria
*Operate the quality laboratory in compliance with external accreditation requirements by strictly following procedures
*Work collaboratively within the team to resolve issues and help prevent customer and consumer complaints
*Arrange service contracts and ensure laboratory equipment is maintained to a high standard
*Order laboratory materials and equipment as required
*Ensure all quality and food safety checks are completed accurately and on time


Knowledge & Experience
*Adequate background knowledge of microbiology and HPLC
*Knowledge and experience of organoleptic (sensory) testing techniques
*Sound understanding of HACCP and food safety principles (ideally to intermediate level or above)
