Accounts Payable Team Leader
We are really excited to be partnering with a well-established, household-name business based in the heart of Leicestershire, as they look to appoint an Accounts Payable Team Leader into their finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to step into a leadership role where they can make an immediate impact, support a growing team and play a key part in the day-to-day success of the function. The role has come about due to ongoing growth and internal movement, creating space for someone who is eager to take that next step and build something for themselves.
The ideal person for this role is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys being in the middle of the action – not just overseeing from the side-lines, but actively supporting, guiding and developing their team. You’ll be a natural problem solver, someone who brings energy, structure and a positive mindset, and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly. If you’re looking for a role where you can grow your leadership skills, gain exposure and build a long-term career, this is a brilliant opportunity to do exactly that.
What you will be doing*Supporting the day-to-day running of the Accounts Payable function within a high-volume environment
*Leading, mentoring and developing a team of AP professionals, providing regular guidance and support
*Allocating workloads effectively to ensure deadlines and service levels are consistently achieved
*Acting as the first point of escalation for complex queries, issues and process challenges
*Overseeing the accurate and timely processing of invoices, credit notes and supplier payments
*Reviewing supplier account reconciliations and supporting resolution of discrepancies
*Checking and approving payment runs in line with controls and payment terms
*Monitoring team performance through KPIs, identifying areas for improvement
*Supporting month-end activities, ensuring deadlines are met and information is accurate
*Maintaining strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers
*Providing hands-on support during busy periods, ensuring backlogs are managed effectively
*Identifying opportunities for process improvements and supporting implementation of changes
*Helping onboard and train new starters, ensuring consistency across the team
What we need from you*Strong Accounts Payable experience within a fast-paced environment
*Previous exposure to leadership, whether through direct management, mentoring, or stepping up to support a team
*Confidence in guiding others, allocating work and acting as a point of escalation
*A hands-on approach, leading by example and supporting the team day-to-day
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively
*A proactive mindset, with the confidence to solve problems and make decisions
*Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
*High attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
*A genuine desire to continue developing your leadership skills and progress your career
Benefits*Generous staff discount across a well-known retail brand and partner brands
*Bonus scheme linked to company performance
*On-site facilities including subsidised restaurants and free parking
*Access to health, wellbeing and financial support services
*Strong focus on internal development and career progression opportunities
If you’re someone who enjoys being hands-on, thrives in a fast-moving environment and is ready to step into a leadership role where you can really make a difference, I’d love to speak with you.
