Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Craftsperson, to be part of our maintenance team at Hope Cement Works, Derbyshire. Our maintenance team play a key role in our daily operations and major plant shutdowns, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our site.
In this role, you will carry out essential maintenance work, both planned and reactive, in a busy industrial environment. Your expertise will help minimise downtime, maximise uptime, and ensure the plan meets its production targets while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

The role is based within our Hope Works Cement plant in the Peak District. As the largest cement manufacturer in the UK, we produce around 1.5 million tonnes of cement annually. With a proud history dating back to 1929, our plant plays a crucial role in the local economy, employing over 200 skilled professionals and utilising local materials to drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver quality maintenance activities following Job procedures , technical drawings , maintenance manuals & plans
• Execute quality planned Maintenance (PM’s) work such as Fixed Plant servicing, inspection and repairs
• Actively contribute to resolving plant issues, reactive breakdown repairs
• Working in partnership with contractor support when required
• Supporting external Inspection engineers / auditors with respect to statuary inspections & audits
• Assist Engineers with area improvement projects, implementation of good ideas and improvement initiatives.
• Ensuring Maintenance is compliant with HSE&Q regulations such as PUWER & CDM regulations etc
• Providing information to improve the documentation of technical information such as technical drawings & specifications.
• Actively take responsibility of your safety and the safety of others
• Use & Maintain risk assessments / method statements
• Complete dynamic STOP assessments
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
You will need to demonstrate experience of strong mechanical skills in gear boxes, bearing, coupling fitting, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding and gas cutting. Experience of working in a heavy industrial environment is essential, as is experience of working within an automated production facility. You will be fully conversant with conveyor systems, lathe, milling machines and pillar drills.
The following skills and experience are strongly desirable:
· Experience of working in a heavy industrial environment is desirable, as is experience of working within an automated production facility.
· City & Guilds, B-Tech, NVQ Level 3 or above in Mechanical Engineering
· Experience using a computerised maintenance management system such as SAP
· The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
· Experience of slinging & rigging operations in a heavy industrial environment would be an advantage.
· The ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, vernia, DTI)
· Experience of carrying out engineering activities / maintenance to support 24 / 7 production
· Analytical and problem-solving skills
