Job Description:
Technical Metallurgist / Materials EngineerA leading manufacturing business within the metals sector is looking to appoint a technically driven Metallurgist / Materials Engineer to support production, product development and customer quality activities across a specialist stainless steel operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in metallurgy, materials science or manufacturing engineering who enjoys working across operations, commercial and customer-facing teams to drive technical excellence and continuous improvement.
The Role as a Technical MetallurgistWorking closely with both commercial and operational teams, you will play a key role in ensuring product quality, supporting customer requirements and driving improvement initiatives across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
*Providing technical support across stainless steel rolling and bar production operations

*Acting as a key technical link between customers, suppliers and internal teams

*Supporting product quality, yield improvement and defect reduction activities

*Investigating customer claims and technical concerns, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions

*Managing and supporting customer product trials through manufacturing processes

*Reviewing customer specifications and integrating requirements into operational systems

*Supporting product development and technical improvement projects

*Assisting with quality and compliance activities in line with ISO standards

*Supporting continuous improvement initiatives through cross-functional collaboration

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
*Degree qualification in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a related discipline

*Previous experience within technical, R&D, manufacturing or operational environments

*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

*Experience supporting process improvement or technical projects

*Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups

*Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Excel and PowerPoint

Experience within stainless steel, long products, rod coil, rebar or bar manufacturing would be highly advantageous, although not essential.
