Location: Lichfield
Pay: £28+ per hour
Job Type: Temporary, ongoing (covering sickness absence and extended vetting processes)
We are currently seeking an experienced Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills within a prison education setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners in developing essential English skills that enhance employability and rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities*Deliver high-quality Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills English sessions to adult learners
*Plan engaging, inclusive lessons tailored to a range of abilities and learning needs
*Assess learner progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
*Prepare learners for Functional Skills assessments and examinations
*Maintain accurate learner records, including attendance, progress, and achievement
*Promote positive behaviour, motivation, and learner engagement in a custodial environment
*Work collaboratively with education staff, prison staff, and support services
*Ensure all teaching complies with safeguarding, health & safety, and prison security requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications*Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent) or relevant teaching/training experience
*Functional Skills English Level 2 (or equivalent)
*Proven experience delivering Functional Skills English at L1 and L2
*Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
*Ability to engage, motivate, and support adult learners with varied educational backgrounds
*Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
*Experience within prison education, FE, or adult education (desirable but not essential)
