A leading global financial institution is looking for a commercially minded lawyer to join its in-house legal team in Birmingham. This Legal Counsel is a hands-on contracts role advising on a broad range of technology and commercial agreements that sit right at the heart of the business.


You’ll work closely with procurement, technology and business teams, drafting and negotiating contracts that support real commercial decisions. As Legal Counsel you’ll have genuine autonomy, direct access to senior stakeholders, and the chance to work on some of the more complex and interesting commercial arrangements the business enters into


What You’ll Be Doing
*Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements across the full technology and services spectrum including software licences, SaaS and cloud service arrangements, hardware and software maintenance contracts.

*You’ll be the go-to legal adviser for procurement and technology teams, helping them structure deals, identify risk early and move at pace without cutting corners.

*You’ll also advise front-line business units on the legal implications of new products, supplier relationships and operational changes.

*On the risk and compliance side, you’ll monitor regulatory developments that affect how the business contracts and operates.

*Beyond the day-to-day advisory work, you’ll contribute to cross-functional projects, support contract management best practice across the organisation, and play an active role in knowledge-sharing within the legal team.

What We’re Looking For
*A qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with 2 plus PQE in commercial contracts, either in-house or in private practice. You’ll need a strong track record advising on technology agreements, covering areas such as SaaS, cloud services, software licensing and data deals.

*Just as important as the technical knowledge is the ability to give clear, practical advice to non-lawyers, manage competing priorities and build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the business.

*This is a role for someone who enjoys being embedded in commercial activity, not sitting at arm’s length from it.

*Familiarity with financial services regulation is a bonus, not a deal breaker.

*Work in their Birmingham office 3 days a week
