SEMH Teaching Assistant – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Full Time | Immediate Start
Are you passionate about making a difference for young people who need it most? Teaching Personnel are looking for a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) on a full-time basis, starting immediately within the Manchester area.
This specialist setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma and attachment needs, anxiety, and barriers to engagement with mainstream education. You’ll play a vital role in helping students feel safe, supported, and ready to re-engage with learning.
What You’ll Be Doing:
In this rewarding role, you will:
*Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
*Help students access learning by offering emotional, behavioural, and academic support
*Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
*Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma
*Support teachers with classroom management and tailored learning activities
*Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and personal development
*Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and other professionals
*Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment
What We’re Looking For:
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
*Prior experience working with children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviours (essential)
*An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
*A calm, patient, and resilient approach
*Confidence managing challenging situations positively
*Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset
*Team Teach training is desirable, but not essential
