Job Description:
Role Title: Trustee (Non-Executive Board Member)
Location: Hybrid – London, UK
Type: Voluntary (Unpaid)
OverviewOur client is an independent charity specialising in responsible investment, working to ensure the global financial system serves both people and the planet. Through advocacy, shareholder engagement, and policy influence, the organisation promotes sustainable investment practices, stronger financial regulation, and improved corporate accountability.
They are seeking a Trustee (Non-Executive Board Member) to join their Board and support the organisation’s governance, strategic direction, and long-term impact. This is an opportunity to contribute at a senior level to an organisation addressing climate change, social inequality, and financial system reform.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Trustee, you will play a key role in oversight, governance, and strategic leadership. Typical responsibilities include:
*Attend and actively contribute to Board meetings and strategic decision-making
*Serve on at least one sub-committee (e.g., Finance, Audit & Risk, HR & Remuneration)
*Review Board materials in advance and engage constructively in discussions
*Provide support and constructive challenge to the executive leadership team
*Act as an ambassador for the organisation, including supporting fundraising initiatives where appropriate
*Collaborate with fellow Trustees, the Chair, and executive team to safeguard the organisation’s assets, reputation, and long-term sustainability
RequirementsCandidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to the organisation’s mission and bring relevant expertise to enhance Board capability.
Priority skills and experience:
*Legal expertise (qualified lawyer preferred), particularly in charity law, pensions law, governance, or financial regulation
*Senior leadership experience within the UK charity sector, ideally including community engagement or organising
Desirable skills:
*Charity accounting expertise
*Fundraising experience or access to relevant networks
General expectations:
*Strong collaboration and independent judgement
*Commitment to organisational values and objectives
*Willingness to understand and uphold trustee legal duties
*Ability to commit approximately 1–2 days per month
