Temporary Customer Relations Officer
Local Authority – Reading (RG1)
Immediate Start | Hybrid Working
We are currently seeking an experienced Customer Relations Officer to join a busy local authority team based in Reading on a temporary basis. This role sits within the Customer Relations and Information Governance function, supporting Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Member and MP correspondence, complaints management, and data protection activity.
About the Role
Working as part of a wider customer relations function (led by three managers), you will manage a high volume of casework and act as a key point of contact for service users, MPs, Parliament, and internal stakeholders.
You will handle telephone calls, emails, and written correspondence, ensuring all responses are accurate, timely, and professionally articulated.
Key Responsibilities
*Managing and responding to Freedom of Information requests
*Supporting responses to MP and Parliamentary enquiries
*Handling customer correspondence, complaints, and information requests
*Gathering information from internal services to support accurate responses
*Maintaining case records and ensuring statutory deadlines are met
*Communicating clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders
About You
*Able to manage a high volume of complex casework confidently
*Highly articulate with advanced grammar and language comprehension skills
*Comfortable drafting clear, accurate, and professional written responses
*Confident working independently with minimal supervision
*Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
*Previous experience in a local authority, FOI, complaints, or information governance environment is highly desirable
Working Arrangements
*Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
*Overtime: Not encouraged
*Hybrid Working:*Monday in the office
*Remaining days worked from home
*Office Location: Reading (RG1)
Contract Details
*Booking until at least November, with potential extension
*Immediate start
*Training provided
Pay Rates
*£17.47 per hour (PAYE)
*£22.52 per hour (Umbrella)
Parking & Travel
*No on-site parking available
*Discounted parking at Broad Street Mall / Q-Park (approximately a 7-minute walk from council offices)
