Job Description:
We’re working on a Assistant Accountant within a volunteer-led, global charitable organisation, supporting the Finance Managers in delivering accurate financial control, reporting, and accounting services across the organisation. The post plays a key part in ensuring robust financial processes underpin the charity’s international work.
Responsibilities:*Process all financial transactions, ensuring invoices and purchase orders are correctly authorised, coded, and paid in line with agreed terms
*Support bookkeeping activities including bank, petty cash, and balance sheet reconciliations for review by Finance Managers
*Manage accounts payable processes including payment runs, supplier setup, purchase ledger control, staff and volunteer expenses, and cash advances
*Provide first-line support on finance queries, ensuring adherence to organisational policies and procedures
*Maintain accounts receivable processes including raising invoices, managing debtor receipts, and following up on outstanding payments
*Oversee income processing and reconciliation, including donations, membership fees, and hotel facility income across multiple systems
*Perform payroll journal processing
*Administer company credit cards and process associated receipts
*Support wider teams with accurate PO and invoice creation and financial processing guidance
*Bank cheques and cash receipts as required
Requirements:*Good standard of English and Mathematics, with formal training in accounting principles (accrual accounting preferred)
*Experience working in a busy finance team and processing transactions in a computerised accounting system
*Experience reconciling balance sheet accounts and working with spreadsheets (strong Excel skills required)
*Understanding of accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger processes
*Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues
*High attention to detail, ability to multitask, and deliver to tight deadlines
*Problem-solving ability and confidence working independently and as part of a team
*Comfortable working in a changing environment and supporting process improvements
Desirable:
*AAT qualification (Level 1-3 or above)
*Charity sector experience and/or knowledge of FRS 102 Charities SORP
*Advanced Excel skills (e.g. PivotTables, Lookups, database functions)
*Experience with group accounting or intercompany processes
*Exposure to business partnering with budget holders
*Experience dealing with foreign currency transactions
