Job Description:
Equipment Technician - Semiconductor Manufacturing
Continental shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off), 12-hour shifts including weekends and bank holidays as part of the continental rotation.
Northamptonshire (rural location - own transport and full UK driving licence essential)
Ideal for engineers from high-reliability industries such as aerospace, defence, automotive, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, power generation, or UK Armed Forces technical trades.
We’re looking for an Equipment Technician to join a highly specialised wafer fabrication and epitaxy facility in the UK, supporting next-generation III-V semiconductor technologies used in global communications networks. This is a hands-on, high-precision engineering role working on advanced semiconductor process tools and complex electro-mechanical systems in a critical manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
*Rapid first-line response to equipment faults to minimise downtime
*Fault finding, repair, and preventative maintenance on semiconductor tools including lithography, etch, PVD, PECVD, and MOVPE systems
*Maintenance of gas delivery, exhaust, and abatement systems
*Safe handling and management of chemical and specialty gas systems in compliance with strict safety standards
*Spare parts and inventory management to support equipment availability
*Implementation of preventative maintenance strategies to improve OEE and uptime
*Contribution to continuous improvement activities (Kaizen, 6S, 8D)
*Accurate documentation of maintenance activities, risk assessments, and procedures
*Participation in production planning and engineering performance meetings
*Support for site emergency response activities
*Forklift operation (training provided)
To be considered for this role you will need the following: *Apprenticeship, HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) OR Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in complex electro-mechanical maintenance
*Experience in high-tech, precision engineering environments
*Strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical fault-finding skills
*Ability to work safely with hazardous gases and chemicals
*Competence working to strict procedures in safety-critical environments
*Strong documentation, communication, and organisational skills
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office
*Ability to interpret technical documentation
