Job Description:

We are seeking a Payroll & Pensions Officer to join a well-established business support team. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
The Role
The successful candidate will support the Payroll Manager in delivering accurate and timely payroll services for approximately 1,250 staff. You will also assist with the administration of multiple pension schemes and provide cover for the Payroll Manager when required.
This is a varied role requiring strong attention to detail, up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, and the ability to manage complex payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the end-to-end processing of monthly payrolls
Support and administer pension schemes including Teachers’ Pension, Local Government Pension Scheme and NEST
Take ownership of payroll processing in the absence of the Payroll Manager
Liaise with HR, Finance and line managers to resolve payroll queries
Ensure all payroll data such as starters, leavers, variations and statutory payments are processed accurately and on time
Reconcile payroll data and carry out manual calculations where required
Process employee benefits including salary sacrifice schemes and other deductions
Ensure compliance with PAYE, NIC, pensions and auto enrolment requirements
Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and organisational policies
Keep up to date with payroll and pension legislation and identify areas for process improvement
About You
You will have a payroll qualification such as CIPP Level 3 (or equivalent) or relevant experience, along with a strong understanding of payroll and pension administration.
You will also demonstrate:
Experience of working with complex payrolls
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and processes
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
Good IT skills including Excel, Word and Outlook
Experience within the education sector or with LGPS, TPS or Access People XD systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
