Dalton Recruitment has been instructed by one it’s top clients to secure a new Procurement Senior Category Manager to look after their Capital projects and Operational expenditure, circa £100m p.a. as they undergo a period of significant transformation.
The new Senior Category Manager will be responsible for developing and executing category strategies and strategic sourcing initiatives across a range of categories of capital project and operational expenditure across operational assets, infrastructure, facilities, and equipment within the client.
This role ensures optimal value delivery through supplier negotiations, contract management, and stakeholder engagement. The Senior Category Manager will drive cost efficiencies, supplier performance, and risk mitigation while aligning procurement strategies with broader business objectives. The client operates in an engineering led, asset intensive environment so candidates with experience in comparable or transferable industries will be of particular interest.
The role will primarily be based out of the client’s Woking offices with regular travel to their UK and European operational sites.
Responsibilities will include:
*Lead the creation and deployment of category strategies for categories in scope, ensuring alignment with operational and financial goals.
*Lead sourcing activities for capital projects and operations, including development and agreement of sourcing strategies, supplier selection, and contract negotiation.
*Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs, align procurement strategies, and ensure category plans support operational and strategic objectives.
*Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers to ensure performance,
*compliance, and continuous improvement. Lead supplier negotiations and relationship management.
*Negotiate and manage contracts to ensure favourable terms, mitigate risks, and maintain compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
*Spend Analysis and Reporting Monitor category spend, identify savings opportunities, and provide regular reporting and insights to stakeholders and leadership.
*Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks within the category set.
*Drive innovation and process improvements within the procurement function and across the supply base.
*Stay informed on market trends, supplier developments, and emerging risks to inform category strategies and decision-making

*Implementation of procurement process enhancements.
*Contribution to digital procurement initiatives or automation efforts.
Minimum Skills & Experience to be Considered:
*Extensive experience in procurement and category management, specifically within capital or asset-intensive environments and industries with significant maintenance and operations focus.
*Proven track record of leading large-scale sourcing initiatives and managing complex supplier relationships
*Strong understanding of capital project lifecycles, engineering requirements, and commercial contracting
*Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organisation
*Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive strategic outcomes.
*Familiarity with procurement processes and systems, data analytics, and performance reporting.
*This role will be based in the client’s office in Woking, but will require frequent travel, including overnight stays, to their operational sites in the UK and Europe for, perhaps, 3 days per week for between 2 and 3 weeks per month. The balance of the time when not visiting sites would be spent between their offices in Woking and Ashford, and working from home.
