Location: Preston, Lancashire (Serving Fulwood, Penwortham, and City Centre schools) Salary: Paid to Scale (£102.83+ per day, dependent on experience) Contract Type: Long-Term Temporary (Temp-to-Perm opportunities) Start Date: Immediate / September 2026
Are you a Youth Worker or Community Mentor in Preston looking for a stable, high-impact role within education? We are recruiting for a Pastoral Cover Supervisor to support a thriving secondary school community.
This role is perfect for someone who excels at building rapport with teenagers (Aged 11-16) and can maintain a calm, productive classroom environment during teacher absences.
The Role: Mentoring & Classroom LeadershipUnlike a standard cover role, this position priorities pastoral care. Your day will be split between classroom management and proactive student support:
*Classroom Supervision: Leading pre-set lessons across the curriculum, ensuring Preston’s learners stay engaged and on-task.
*Pastoral Support: Acting as a "First Responder" for students requiring emotional or behavioural regulation.
*Small Group Interventions: Leading workshops on confidence, social skills, or attendance.
*Safeguarding: Working alongside the school’s DSL and Heads of Year to ensure every student feels safe and supported.
What You’ll Need*Youth Work Background: Experience in youth clubs, sports coaching, or community outreach is highly valued.
*Confidence: The ability to command the attention of a class of 30 secondary students.
*Local Commitment: A desire to support the diverse community of Preston and the surrounding Fylde areas.
*Qualifications: A Degree or Level 3 in Youth Work/Social Care is preferred. We will also consider "Unqualified Teachers" with significant pastoral experience.
*Resilience: The ability to stay cool under pressure and handle the "highs and lows" of a secondary school day.
