Job Description:
The Greater London Authority is seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to join its Planning Unit within the Development, Enterprise and Environment Directorate. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a hands-on role in shaping London’s future by supporting the development and delivery of the Mayor’s key spatial strategies, including the London Plan.
Working at the heart of strategic planning for the capital, you will contribute to high-profile policy work, advise on developments of strategic importance, and collaborate with boroughs, partners and stakeholders across London and beyond.
Contract: 3 months

Location: Southwark (Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in the office)

Rate: £34.56 per hour PAYE or £45 per hour Umbrella
Key Responsibilities
As a Strategic Planner, you will:
*Support the development, monitoring and review of the Mayor’s strategies, particularly the Spatial Development Strategy (London Plan)
*Provide research and advice on current and emerging strategic planning issues, including housing, the economy, infrastructure, transport, the built environment, and the green environment
*Process planning applications of potential strategic importance, engaging with boroughs, applicants and stakeholders
*Assist with the production of Opportunity Area Planning Frameworks (OAPFs) and other spatial planning frameworks
*Provide planning and spatial advice to GLA colleagues on development management, Local Plans and related documents
*Contribute to briefings and reports for the Mayor, the London Assembly and other bodies
*Support policy development projects and research initiatives
*Represent the Mayor’s planning policies at examinations in public, inquiries and consultations
*Work collaboratively with GLA teams and external organisations, including London boroughs, consultancies, academic bodies and voluntary agencies
*Promote equality, inclusion and the diverse needs of London’s communities in all aspects of your work
About You
You will be an experienced planning professional with a strong understanding of strategic and spatial planning in London. You’ll be confident working across complex policy areas, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, and contributing to high-impact planning and development work at a city-wide level.
