Division: Estates and Facilities Directorate, Cleaning Department
Location: UEA Sportspark, Norwich
Job Title: Cleaning Team Leader
Reporting to: Cleaning Coordinator
Grade: Grade 4
Hours 3.30am - 9.30am Monday - Friday
Pay £13.40
Job Purpose
Provide line management, direction, and support to cleaning staff to ensure University facilities are clean, well-presented, and ready for use by students, staff, and visitors, while ensuring adherence to University policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with colleagues from across the University to ensure high standards of customer care, enhance the reputation of UEA, and meet service targets.
- Lead on developing, implementing, and maintaining cleaning schedules and ensuring consistent operational delivery to agreed standards.
- Establish and influence good practice by conducting team briefings, training, and inductions and modelling professional conduct.
- Introduce and oversee new staff, including delivery of basic health and safety guidance and operational induction.
- Monitor and report on quality through inspections, checklists, and inventories, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Take responsibility for absence management, staff performance, and documentation of staff records in line with university policies.
- Produce and maintain tools, materials, and checklists to support operational effectiveness and compliance.
- Advise on cleaning material and equipment needs and ensure timely reordering via the Cleaning Coordinator.
- Develop staff through regular feedback, support with performance management, and ensuring alignment with sustainability and recycling objectives.
General
*There will be a requirement for all members of the team to be flexible in undertaking additional or alternative duties commensurate with the grade.
*Contribute to the continuous development and implementation of the Estates and Facilities Directorate Cleaning Department
*Positively support and promote the University’s Values in all aspects of work.
*Abide by all University Regulations and Policies relevant to the role.
*The postholder is always bound to observe the strict rules of confidentiality applicable to work in the Estates and Facilities Directorate Cleaning Department
Education & Training
*Sound literacy and numeracy skills
*Relevant supervisory qualification
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
*Previous employment in a cleaning, housekeeping or facilities post or experience of these activities in a relevant environment.
*Supervisory experience and ability to support a team.
*Able to maintain computer-based records.
*Management and knowledge of health and safety procedures
*Strong verbal and written communication skills
*Ability to follow security and confidentiality processes within buildings
*Management of stock control
