Job Description:
Summary As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
As a part of this, you’ll be on rotas for working regular weekends. You may occasionally be required to support other property teams in the portfolio with their work.
What it’s like to work here Based at Oxburgh Estate, you’ll be part of a team of staff and volunteers protecting and caring for its existing habitats & wildlife and establishing newly created parkland.
The Oxburgh Estate straddles the edge of Breckland and the Fens which creates a uniquely diverse mix of habitats over is 200 acres which is littered with some incredible archaeology. We look after chalk river, reedbed, woodland and parkland, including establishment of a 130 acre parkland restoration project attached to a 13th century moated manor house. Oxburgh is part of a larger portfolio of properties which includes Felbrigg and Peckover House & Garden.

What you’ll be doing You’ll be managing year-round access for visitors. Working outdoors in all weathers, you’ll do this with a variety of hand tools and specialist machinery with the help of our dedicated group of volunteers, who you’ll be supervising.
To monitor the impact of our work, you’ll be undertaking regular wildlife surveys of a number of species assisted by a group of specialist volunteers, keeping good quality records so we can share data with other organisations. You’ll be engaging with visitors and neighbours with our work, helping the Lead Ranger and Countryside Manager build and maintain good relationships with our local community.
You’ll be part of a wider team of operational staff keeping Oxburgh safe and open to the public. You’ll be part of the duty management rota. You’ll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.
Who we’re looking for We’d love to hear from you if you’re:
*practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
*happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and why it matters
*hard-working and willing to learn
*able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
*experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors
*able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates
*a driver with a full UK driving licence
