Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teacher to join a specialist education setting in Oldham. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity working with pupils across primary and secondary age groups within a nurturing and inclusive environment.
About the School
The school provides specialist support for children and young people aged 4–19 with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). It offers a tailored alternative to mainstream education, with a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, inclusion, and preparing pupils for independence and adulthood.
The Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching to pupils with complex needs. You will plan engaging lessons tailored to individual learning styles, while working closely with support staff, therapists, and families.
You will create a calm, structured, and supportive environment where pupils can develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
*Planning and delivering personalised lessons aligned with EHCP targets
*Differentiating learning to meet sensory, communication, and developmental needs
*Leading and supporting classroom staff, including teaching assistants
*Using specialist strategies such as PECS, AAC, visual schedules, and sensory approaches
*Implementing Team Teach strategies to support positive behaviour and safe de-escalation
*Monitoring and assessing pupil progress
*Supporting pupils during periods of emotional dysregulation
*Promoting independence, social development, and emotional regulation
*Working collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary teams
Essential Requirements
*Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
*Experience or strong interest in working with pupils with ASC and SLCN
*Strong behaviour management skills and understanding of positive handling approaches
*A patient, resilient, and proactive attitude
*Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
*Previous experience in a specialist or SEN setting
*Team Teach training (essential) or willingness to obtain
*Knowledge of EHCPs and personalised learning
*Experience using communication and sensory support strategies
