IT Support Engineer (1st / 2nd Line – On-Site)Location: Great Barford
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum
Working Hours: 06:00 – 14:30, Monday to Friday
I am working on behalf of my Client who are seeking an experienced 1st / 2nd Line IT Support Engineer to operate as an on-site (in-plant) engineer within one of our key customer environments.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where you will act as the primary IT presence on-site, supporting daily operations across a fast-paced distribution and office setting. You will work closely with end users, third-party vendors, and the central service desk to ensure smooth and efficient IT service delivery across three locations.
Key ResponsibilitiesUser Support (1st / 2nd Line)*Deliver on-site IT support to office, workshop, and warehouse users
*Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues
*Escalate complex incidents to 3rd line teams or external vendors where necessary
*Maintain a professional, customer-focused approach at all times
Applications & Systems Support*Provide support for the Syrinx application
*Maintain and support Terminal Server / RDS environments (used for Sage)
*Administer and support Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
*Support and maintain on-premises Windows Server environments
Infrastructure & Networking*Provide 1st and 2nd line support for network infrastructure (switches, cabling, connectivity)
*Troubleshoot LAN/WAN issues and basic firewall/network problems
*Liaise with ISPs and third-party providers to resolve connectivity issues
Devices & End User Computing*Support desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, scanners, and warehouse terminals
*Build, configure, and deploy new hardware
*Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls
Operational & Proactive Tasks*Monitor systems and proactively address potential issues
*Maintain accurate documentation and handover notes
*Collaborate with internal teams and customer management
*Ensure adherence to IT standards, processes, and procedures
Skills & Experience (Essential)*Proven experience in a 1st / 2nd Line IT Support role
*Experience supporting users in a fast-paced operational or warehouse environment
*Strong working knowledge of:
*Windows 10 / 11
*Windows Server (on-premises)
*Terminal Server / RDS
*Microsoft 365 / Office 365
*Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, switching, connectivity troubleshooting)
*Excellent communication and customer service skills
*Ability to work independently as the sole on-site IT presence
