Job Description:
Medical Laboratory Assistant, Watford WD18, £15ph, Immediate Start
An opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join a busy laboratory.
In this varied and hands-on role, you will be at the heart of the laboratory service—supporting diagnostic testing, handling patient samples, and providing excellent customer service to healthcare professionals and patients.
Key Responsibilities
*Register patient details and test requests on laboratory systems
*Receive, check, and prepare samples for testing
*Respond to enquiries from healthcare professionals and patients
*Provide authorised results where appropriate
*Manage phone calls and direct queries to relevant teams
*Process departmental mail, reports, and documentation
*Package and dispatch samples in line with biohazard regulations
*Prepare and process samples for diagnostic testing
*Use laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and incubators
*Maintain stock levels and order supplies when required
*Safely dispose of clinical and hazardous waste
*Clean and maintain laboratory workspaces and equipment
What We’re Looking For
*Biomedical Science degree or similar
*Medical Laboratory experience within a pathology lab
*Knowledge of laboratory processes and quality standards
*Accurate data entry with strong attention to detail
*Ability to follow instructions accurately and work as part of a team
*Awareness of confidentiality and data protection
*Calm under pressure with a customer-focused approach
*Professional, reliable, and punctual
*Flexible and adaptable to changing workloads
Committed to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety
