Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Interim HR Advisory Manager to lead the Employee Relations–focused HR Advisory service for a Local Authority.
6 Months contract with a possibility of getting extended
Hybrid Working
This is a hands-on operational leadership role, ideal for an established interim who is confident managing complex ER casework, advising senior leaders and leading multi-layered HR teams in a fast-paced public sector environment.
Alongside leading the core HR Advisory function, the role includes strategic oversight of a traded Schools HR service, ensuring consistent standards, quality and alignment across both services.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead the HR Advisory service with a strong focus on Employee Relations
*Oversee and actively manage a complex ER caseload (disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and high-risk cases)
*Provide expert advice to senior leaders on sensitive and high-profile matters
*Directly manage, coach and quality assure a team of 4 HR Advisors
*Provide oversight and strategic direction to the Schools HR Manager and their team delivering SLA-based HR support
*Ensure consistency, governance and risk management across all ER activity
*Ensure compliance with employment legislation and organisational policy
*Lead and contribute to the development and refinement of HR and ER policies
*Embed policy into operational practice, using insight from casework to drive continuous improvement
About You
*A strong background leading HR Advisory and/or Employee Relations functions
*Significant experience handling complex and high-risk ER cases end-to-end
*Proven experience managing managers and multi-layered HR teams
*Public sector or local authority experience (highly desirable)
*Experience working with or overseeing traded HR services / SLA-based delivery (desirable)
*A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with excellent stakeholder management skills
*The ability to hit the ground running and add value quickly with minimal supervision
