Full job descriptionWe are seeking a specialist tutor to support an 18-year-old post-16 learner on a face-to-face basis, for 2 hours per day, 5 days per week.
The young person presents with selective mutism and an ASD profile, and has not been in formal education since the age of 13. While progress has been made in terms of mental wellbeing, she requires tailored support to re-engage with learning-particularly in Maths and English.
Key information:
*Academically significantly behind age-related expectations
*Exceptionally creative, with strong strengths in music and regularly performs in group settings
*Finds it difficult to see the relevance of Maths and English
*Requires a mentoring-led approach rather than traditional teaching
Approach required:
*Sessions must be highly creative and engaging, with no formal or traditional lesson structure
*Focus on life skills, confidence building, and gradual community engagement
*Activities should be low-pressure, with no expectations placed on participation initially
*Tutor must be able to identify gaps in learning informally and adapt accordingly
*Tasks should be broken down into 1-3 simple instructions, gradually building tolerance and independence
The ideal tutor will have experience with:
*ASD and selective mutism
*Emotionally based school avoidance
*Delivering flexible, therapeutic-style education
