Manchester City Centre- Hybrid working
We’re looking for a talented Data Engineer to join our expanding Data team and play a key role in shaping and advancing our data capabilities. In this position, you’ll bring your expertise to support a diverse and evolving programme of work, spanning areas such as Finance and Actuarial, AI-driven Claims Augmentation, and the development of our Azure Data Platform and Databricks solutions.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge of Azure, Databricks, and modern data engineering practices to impactful business initiatives. You’ll combine strong technical expertise with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders across multiple business domains.
You’ll also contribute to the ongoing support and enhancement of our legacy SQL Server data warehouses while helping to drive their transition to Azure. The role operates within an Agile delivery environment, so experience working with Agile methodologies is essential.
We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience in the insurance or financial services sector, who can translate business challenges into effective, data-driven solutions. You’ll thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Data Engineer Responsibilities
*Design, build, and maintain scalable data solutions using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Azure SQL Database
*Provide technical leadership and guidance as a senior member of the development team
*Produce and maintain clear documentation of data processes, transformations, and systems
*Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication
*Act as a bridge between offshore teams, internal developers, and business stakeholders
*Support the development and optimisation of legacy SQL Server data warehouses and migration to Azure
*Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in data and analytics
*Plan, track, and manage development activities in collaboration with project managers and Scrum Masters
Skills & Experience
*Proven experience delivering data solutions, with a strong understanding of:
*Relational databases
*Data warehousing concepts
*ETL processes and data modelling
*Advanced T-SQL skills
*Experience working in Agile delivery environments, using tools such as Kanban boards and CI/CD pipelines
*Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail
*Hands-on experience with:
*Azure Data Factory (ADF) or SSIS
*Azure Databricks and Python
*Knowledge of Master Data Services (MDS) (desirable)
